Pornography Essays (9012 words) - Pornography, Ageism, Israeli Law
Sex entertainment Sex entertainment Nick Baker p.6 Sex entertainment - Sex or Subordination? In the late Seventies, America got stunned and insulted by the assault, mutilation, and murder of over twelve youthful, wonderful young ladies. The man who submitted these killings, Ted Bundy, was later captured and executed. During his detainment in different prisons, he was intellectually tested and pushed by analyst and psychoanalysts wanting to find the foundation of his rough activities and sexual dissatisfactions. Numerous speculations emerged in endeavors to clarify the inspirational variables behind his dangerous capers. Be that as it may, the most grounded and generally attainable of these hypotheses came not from the therapists, yet from the man himself, as an adolescent, my mates and I would all sneak around and watch pornography. As I developed more seasoned, I turned out to be increasingly intrigued and engaged with it, [pornography] turned into a fixation. I got so associated with it, I needed to fuse [porn] into my life, howeve r I was unable to carry on like that and keep up the achievement I had buckled down for. I produced an adjust conscience to satisfy my dreams under-spread. Erotic entertainment was a methods for opening the abhorrent I had covered inside myself (Leidholdt 47). Is it conceivable that sex entertainment is going about as the way to opening the fiendishness in increasingly unsteady personalities? As indicated by Edward Donnerstein, a main scientist in the erotic entertainment field, the connection between explicitly fierce pictures in the media and resulting hostility and . . . unfeeling mentalities towards ladies is a lot more grounded measurably than the connection among smoking and malignancy (Itzin 22). In the wake of thinking about the expansion in assault and attack, inappropriate behavior, and other sex wrongdoings in the course of the most recent couple of decades, and furthermore the relating increment of business in the erotic entertainment industry, the connection among vicio usness and sex entertainment needs significant investigation and assessment. When the proof you will experience in this paper is assessed and measured, it will be hard not left away with the acknowledgment that routine utilization of obscene material advances ridiculous and unreachable wants in men that can prompt vicious conduct toward ladies. So as to appropriately examine erotic entertainment, and have the option to connect it to viciousness, we should initially go to a fundamental and pleasing comprehension of what the word sex entertainment implies. The term erotic entertainment starts from two Greek words, porne, which implies mistress, and graphein, which intends to compose (Webster's 286). My conviction is that the blend of the two words was initially intended to depict, in writing, the sexual adventures of ladies considered to be prostitutes. As time has passed, this meaning of erotic entertainment has developed to incorporate all profane writing and pictures. At the curren t date, the term is fundamentally a sweeping which covers a wide range of material, for example, unequivocal writing, photography, movies, and video tapes with fluctuating degrees of sexual substance. For Catherine Itzin's examination purposes erotic entertainment has been isolated into three classifications: The explicitly unequivocal and brutal; the explicitly express and peaceful, yet subjecting and dehumanizing; and the explicitly express, peaceful, and no subjecting that depends on commonality. The explicitly unequivocal and savage is realistic, indicating entrance and discharge. Additionally, it shows the fierce demonstration toward a lady. The subsequent model shows the realistic sexual act and peak, yet not a savage demonstration. This model shows the lady being dressed is an ensemble or being 'talked down' to so as to lessen her to something not human, for example, a body part or only something to engage in sexual relations with, a body opening or a hole. In addition to the fact that erotica shows the whole realistic sexual act, it additionally portrays a fascination between two individuals. Her examination reliably shows that destructive impacts are related with the initial two, however that the third 'erotica', is innocuous (22). These three classifications essentially exist as devices of observing substance. Albeit here and there they cover without a genuine qualification, as in when the film is realistic in the sexual demonstration and furthermore in brutality, however shows the go about just like a shared action between the individuals taking an interest. In my view, to additionally partition sex entertainment, it is conceivable to separate it into much more straightforward classifications: delicate and no-nonsense sex entertainment. In-your-face sex entertainment is a blend of the explicitly express and savage and the

Making a Practice of Practice Testing
When parents and students call Compass seeking college admission testing support, we begin with questions of our own before offering specific guidance. And one question in particular is asked of every prospective client: Have you taken a practice test? Because to help you get where you want to go, we want to see where you currently stand. Practice tests, and the diagnostic score reports that follow, bring uncertainty into focus. They replace hunches and guesswork with firsthand experience and performance data. The best way to demystify standardized testing is to pay less attention to what is suspected about a test and a test taker and more attention to what a complete test sitting and results actually tell us. By fall of junior year, most 11th graders and their parents will want to firm up their testing roadmap for the coming year. Their most common opening questions are also the most sensible ones: Should I take the SAT or ACT? How do I choose? When should I take my first official test? How and when should I prepare for the test? Well. Have you taken a practice test? If not, letââ¬â¢s start there. Here are 10 reasons why: Reason 1: Because You Can Itââ¬â¢s easy to begrudge practice testing, but itââ¬â¢s in fact a luxury and an advantage to have a dry run at a high stakes test. The experiential benefit of a full length, proctored assessment cannot be overstated. If students do nothing else to prepare for the ACT or SAT, they should at least work through a full exam under strict testing and timing conditions. Reason 2: Practice Tests Help You Get Comfortable With Discomfort The value of a practice test goes well beyond previewing sample questions. Our students are able to simulate the entire ordeal of an actual test day: sacrificing a weekend morning, traveling to a test site, remembering (or forgetting!) their calculator and pencils, tuning out distractions in the room, and optimizing their short breaks to use the restroom or consume a quick snack. And any students with recently approved special accommodations can experience the effect of these new variables. Reason 3: Practice Tests Reduce Test Anxiety Once the practice test begins, students get a risk-free chance to experiment with pacing and clock management aspects of test-taking that canââ¬â¢t be fully appreciated until they are felt. Students get an authentic taste of cognitive fatigue. They execute the tedious act of transcribing answers neatly and completely into small bubbles on a separate sheet. And, they gain direct insight into the standardized traits of the exam, such as section length and order, question types and location, and answer choice patterns. We see confidence improve as these unknowns become familiar and then routine. Reason 4: Practice Tests Are Predictive Standardized tests are imperfect and incomplete, but they donââ¬â¢t beat around the bush. They say nothing about what makes you an interesting person, but they do tally up how many math and verbal questions you got right or wrong in the allotted time. Practice tests tell you, at minimum, how youââ¬â¢re likely to perform on a real test if nothing much changes. This objective dose of reality is important for everyone involved. Reason 5: Practice Tests Help You Choose the ACT or SAT Colleges accept the two tests interchangeably, so the decision is yours. ââ¬Å"To decideâ⬠literally means ââ¬Å"to cut off,â⬠and we generally believe in choosing one and moving along from there. Test type selection is made easier when you have two trusted data points to compare. If you have a fairly recent result (e.g., a PSAT or a PreACT), we can administer the other one for you. Our concordance tool allows us to make top-line comparisons of scores to see if thereââ¬â¢s a clear winner. We find that roughly 25% of students perform better on the ACT, 25% perform better on the SAT, and the remaining 50% are within a judgement call band. For these students, we look further into the score reports and other personal factors to assist with choosing a test. Reason 6: Practice Tests Find Your Blind Spots After completing a practice test with Compass, youââ¬â¢ll receive a sophisticated analysis of your performance. Weââ¬â¢ll turn around your results in a few days in the form of a robust diagnostic score report. This interactive tool tells the story beneath the scores and paints a detailed portrait of what youââ¬â¢re doing well and exactly what you need to improve. Baseline diagnostic score reports serve as blueprints for a customized tutoring program we build for you. Reason 7: Practice Tests Make Test Preparation More Relevant Knowing your score is a good start, but precisely why is your score what it is? Practice is good; evaluated practice is better. With our diagnostic evaluation in hand, you and your Compass tutors can relive the test together through case-study examinations of selected items. Our reports provide the following insights and more: Relative standing (percentile) of your individual section and total scores Improvement in relative standing for every possible score gain Sortable and filtered performance data by question type and content area Wrong-answer analysis and trap-answer identification Clock management and pacing patterns Missed opportunities and careless-error identification Question-level performance data of other test takers with similar scores By diving this deeply into your practice test results, our tutors tailor their instruction to make the most of your 90-minute private weekly sessions. Our score reports are specifically designed for one-on-one guided study; they are meant to complement customized tutoring. Reason 8: Practice Tests Build On One Another Indeed, over the course of the 3-4 months together, your tutors will assign 3-4 more full-length proctored practice exams. These serve as periodic mile markers, they steadily boost endurance and familiarity, and they fuel your tutoring program with new fodder for review as your test taking skills become more refined. Those who complete this regimen are able to arrive at their official test date feeling poised and in control of what they are about to encounter. Reason 9: Practice Test Results Are Kept Private Many clients understandably subscribe to the notion that repeat testing will drive test scores higher. ACT and College Board data support this belief, to an extent. Scores tend to increase à slightly with re-testing, but they level out at what can be thought of as a test-takerââ¬â¢s soft ceiling. Minor improvement happens organically, but meaningful gains tend to occur only when proper evaluation and preparation happens between sittings. The tests themselves donââ¬â¢t really change, so for scores to move significantly, the test taker needs to evolve over repeated attempts. So why not just take lots and lots of official tests? This is not advisable. Colleges who prohibit you from utilizing ââ¬Å"Score Choiceâ⬠will request your complete testing portfolio. While itââ¬â¢s fine to have 2-3 sets of scores, a pattern of extremely excessive testing can undermine any positive impression the top scores themselves made. Reason 10: Practice Test Results Are More Actionable Excessive testing is not only inadvisable, itââ¬â¢s also difficult to do. Official tests involve a lengthy registration process several weeks in advance, they are offered no more than once a month, and test results take several more weeks to come back to you. Release of the test booklet and diagnostic detail is only offered on a few test dates and for an additional cost. Even when available, this extra information is further delayed for weeks or months. With practice tests, students keep their test booklet to cross-reference against the fully transparent score report they receive within a few days. Compass offers up to two (one SAT and one ACT) proctored practice tests to any interested student. Active clients have ongoing access to our practice exams and proctored sessions which are offered on a weekly basis, year-round, in several locations and online. Two Related FAQs The PSAT is offered in October at my school. Shouldnââ¬â¢t I just treat that as my practice SAT? Most juniors (and many sophomores) should plan to take the PSAT (and/or the PreACT if offered to sophomores.) Itââ¬â¢s another risk-free opportunity to preview a higher stakes test that is approaching. The PSAT is vertically aligned with the SAT, which means you can think of your PSAT score as an SAT score as if you had taken the SAT that day instead. (The same is true for the PreACT/ACT.) And juniors who earn extraordinarily high PSAT scores will be in the running for National Merit recognition. There are just a few minor caveats with the PSAT: Itââ¬â¢s a slightly shorter and slightly easier test, so the highest possible section score is a 760, not an 800. (The highest PreACT score is a 35, not a 36.) The PSAT and PreACT do not include the Essay. Full-length practice SATs and ACTs do, so you will receive feedback and a score on your practice essay. PSAT scores wonââ¬â¢t come back until mid-December. So from a strategic planning perspective, juniors wonââ¬â¢t be able to factor those results into their consideration until then. That can negatively impact the preparation plans for families looking to use the late fall and winter months of 11th grade to gear up for testing in February or March. I was offered a so-called ââ¬Å"hybridâ⬠ACT+SAT practice test. It sounds like a faster and easier way to kill two birds with one stone. Too good to be true? Yes. Hybrid tests get billed as convenient time-savers, but they serve no one but the test prep companies who peddle them. A hybrid test makes for good advertising but delivers little in the way of reliable diagnostic insight. By blending flavors, a hybrid test bears a superficial resemblance to parts of the ACT and SAT, but it is in fact more of a casserole of question types tossed together to become a proxy for neither. With genuine sample tests widely available, you can refine your testing palate by sticking to those diagnostic and practice resources. So. Have you taken a practice test? Click here to get started.

What Was the Great Game
The Great Game ââ¬â also known as Bolshaya Igra ââ¬â was an intense rivalry between the British and Russian Empires in Central Asia, beginning in the nineteenth century and continuing through 1907 wherein Britain sought to influence or control much of Central Asia to buffer the crown jewel of its empire:à British India. Tsarist Russia, meanwhile, sought to expand its territory and sphere of influence, to create one of historys largest land-based empires. The Russians would have been quite happy to wrest control of India away from Britain as well. As Britain solidified its hold on India ââ¬â including what is now Myanmar, Pakistan and Bangladeshà ââ¬â Russia conquered Central Asian khanates and tribes on its southern borders. The front line between the two empires ended up running through Afghanistan, Tibet, and Persia. Origins of Conflict The British Lord Ellenborough started The Great Game on January 12, 1830, with an edict establishing a new trade route from India to Bukhara, using Turkey, Persia, and Afghanistan as a buffer against Russia to prevent it from controlling any ports on the Persian Gulf. Meanwhile, Russia wanted to establish a neutral zone in Afghanistan allowing for their use of crucial trade routes. This resulted in a series of unsuccessfulà wars for the British to control Afghanistan, Bukhara, and Turkey. The British lost at all four wars ââ¬â the First Anglo-Saxon War (1838), the First Anglo-Sikh War (1843), the Second Anglo-Sikh War (1848) and the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878) ââ¬â resulting in Russia taking control of several Khanates including Bukhara. Although Britains attempts to conquer Afghanistan ended in humiliation, the independent nation held as a buffer between Russia and India. In Tibet, Britain established control for just two years after the Younghusband Expedition of 1903 to 1904, before being displaced by Qin China. The Chinese emperor fell just seven years later, allowing Tibet to rule itself once more. End of a Game The Great Game officially ended with the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907, which divided Persia into a Russian-controlled northern zone, a nominally independent central zone, and a British-controlled southern zone. The Convention also specified a borderline between the two empires running from the eastern point of Persia to Afghanistan and declared Afghanistan an official protectorate of Britain. Relations between the two European powers continued to be strained until they allied against the Central Powers in World War I, though there still now exists hostility toward the two powerful nations ââ¬â especially in the wake of Britains exit from the European Union in 2017. The term Great Game is attributed to British intelligence officer Arthur Conolly and was popularized by Rudyard Kipling in his book Kim from 1904, wherein he plays up the idea of power struggles between great nations as a game of sorts.

John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men - 1880 Words
ââ¬Å"Everyone always says that anything is possible, but some things in life just canââ¬â¢t be reached. Sometimes your dreams just canââ¬â¢t be achieved.â⬠(Carl Johnson) All humans living in America have dreams. These could all easily be described as the American Dream. The American Dream can frequently change from time to time due to the time period. It can also change due to the age of the person at hand. Children grow up having these dreams, but who knows how long these dreams will last. Some elderly people develop new dreams or are still chasing to fulfill the dreams theyââ¬â¢ve had since they were much younger. These dreams are all things that people want and desire to have. Some of these dreams are unrealistic and could never happen.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦There is another point when the American Dream is found unachievable in Of Mice and Men. This is when Curley s wife tells the story of wanting to become a photography model. She was unsuccess ful in this though. This can easily be found in the book, Of Mice and Men. Stated on Page 86, ââ¬Å" ââ¬â¢Nother time I met a guy, anââ¬â¢ he was in pitchers. Went out to the Riverside Dance Palace with him. He says he was gonna put me in the movies. Says I was a natural. She really wanted to receive that letter. She desired to become someone that was somewhat famous. She desired to have nice clothing and to have wealth. Then, this man talks to her and says that he wants to put her in movies and photographs. He says that he will write to her when he gets back to Hollywood. Though, the man didnââ¬â¢t ever write to Cu rleyââ¬â¢s wife. This upset her and made her somewhat disappointed. Through this example, it shows that Curleyââ¬â¢s wife wasnââ¬â¢t able to fulfill a great dream and desire of hers. It also shows that Of Mice and Men portrays the American Dream to be most certainly unachievable. The American Dream and its shortcomings and failings it seemed best to compare Death of a Salesman with an American novel Essay Example For Students
The American Dream and its shortcomings and failings it seemed best to compare Death of a Salesman with an American novel Essay Dealing as it does with the American Dream and its shortcomings and failings it seemed best to compare Death of a Salesman with an American novel, which also deals with the same ideas of dreams and so in this piece I will explore the comparisons and contrasts between Millers Death of a Salesman and F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, in particular focusing on comparing Willy Loman and Jay Gatsby. It is clear that in both novels dreams and the death of dreams is a prevalent theme. We see in Willy Loman the characterisation of many of the dreams, a desire for his family to do well, as well as desire for wealth, status and the consumerist luxuries of 1920s America. Jay Gatsby shares many of these characteristic desires and the two characters also share many traits. Falsity is one of the traits they share. Willy Loman is at times in the play almost a farcical character in terms of the delusion of family and his own destructive self-delusion. This is typified when he contradicts himself, he builds up an edifice of success and when he fails to live up to this artifice he becomes angry and confused. One examples of this contrast is Chevrolet, Linda, is the greatest car ever built immediately followed by That goddam Chevrolet, they ought to prohibit the manufacture of that car. Similarly Jay Gatsby, or James Gatz, deludes those around him. He throws lavish parties and spends exorbitant amounts of money, when in reality he grew up on a farm in North Dakota. By allowing rumours of his being a bootlegger or in one case a relative of Kaiser Wilhelm II only served to distance the extravagant Jay Gatsby of West Egg from the dull James Gatz of North Dakota. The idea of dreams is probably one of the most important themes in both novels. In Death of a Salesman Willy Loman is obsessed with a desire for economic success, and in a much deeper way to leave his mark on the world, an inerasable testament to his life. Gatsby similarly desires something, the love of Daisy Buchanan, and the green light that he gazes at on the end of her dock, is deeply symbolic of this. Their ambitions however provide a point of difference. Initially it may appear that they are the same but in reality they are quite different. The vast pretence that Gatsby builds is only for one purpose, the acquisition of Daisy Buchanan and he centres his whole life round it. However for Willy, the ambitions are not as clear-cut. It may be that he wishes Biff to be proud of him and feel as if he is better than what he is I am not a dime a dozen! Im Willy Loman and you are Biff Loman. However a number of other concerns enter his mind such as advancement in his profession, the tireless quest for financial success and the desire for consumerist status, which will prove him. In fact one of the only considerations that doesnt enter into Willys mind, in direct contrast to Gatsby, is that of love. He takes Linda for granted and then cheats on her, much in the way that the aristocratic Tom Buchanan cheats on Daisy with Myrtle Wilson. Despite this one difference in their ambitions the original positions of Willy Loman and James Gatz were not dissimilar. Both came from the West and tried to make a living in the East, struggling in the daily rat race of city life. Where Willy failed however Gatsby triumphed. .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .postImageUrl , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:hover , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:visited , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:active { border:0!important; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:active , .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0 .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ubc8a4e7257e40f95502dada15cc893b0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: God forbid EssayThrough his relationship with Dan Cody he attained the wealth and status he needed to impress Daisy whilst Willy Loman still toiled in the lower classes. This difference may be highlighted in that Gatsby lives in West Egg but seperating this from New York is the Valley of Ashes, which in The Great Gatsby represents the social cost of the decadence of the Jazz Age. For those in positions of wealth then it seems that there is a far greater dispensability of objects, which for Willy Loman are a commodity which he struggles to afford. Indeed it is not too hard to imagine Willy Loman himself living in the Valley of Ashes, next door to the emotionally and socially unfulfilled George Wilson, struggling against the cast-offs of the social elite. Both The Great Gatsby and Death of a Salesman contain social criticisms of contemporary American society. The former is set entirely in the 1920s, in what Fitzgerald liked to call the Jazz Age whilst the latter is set in the 1920s only in Willys memories though this is when the defining events of the Loman life occur. Both novels question the validity of the rampant consumerism of the period. Willy is periodically financially crippled by credit payments and for Gatsby, though these luxuries are affordable to him, they prove fruitless in his quest for Daisy Buchanan when after all his years of toil she seems paralysed into inaction when asked to leave Tom. It is also worth noting that both of these characters died in symbols of this consumerism, Willy in his car and Gatsby in his pool, and despite devoting their lives to the acquisition of these luxuries both had desolate funerals. The methods used to describe the characters by the authors also serve to create an aura of decay about them and their environment. Delayed character revelations create the effect that the characters are being deconstructed. For example Gatsbys reputation precedes him. He is not even introduced as a speaker until Chapter 3 and the revelations about his early life are not made until Chapters 6 and 7. By titling the novel The Great Gatsby we are immediately presented with this mystical reputation of the man who we later find out is a fraud. Similarly Willy Loman, in the first concurrence of past and present is presented as a success I knocked em dead in Boston. This serves to characterise a a society in which impressions are everything and when the reputation is pierced the reality is shown to be quite different. Despite his criminal past we are more drawn to Gatsby for his upholding of morals and his devotion in his quest for Daisy than we ever were for the aloof host of the party and similarly though Willys treatment of Linda was reprehensible we cannot help but be touched by the realisation of Biffs love for him. In this way the imposed self-invention of society is shown to negatively affect the characters. The morality of the American society at the time is also questioned in both novels. In the 1920s the opulence which Fitzgerald shows through the parties thrown at Gatsbys mansion belie the underlying immorality of them. For Fitzgerald from the mid-west the decadence that was prevalent in the Jazz Age is an immoral thing. This immorality came about as a corruption of the idea of the American dream. This supposed ideological purity is symbolised in the novel in The Great Gatsby, through Nick and Gatsbys involvement in the Great War and in Death of a Salesman through the idealisation of the pioneering, individualistic spirit by Willy and Ben. Both authors also question the class system of the time. As we have already seen the roots of Gatsby and Loman are similar but only one achieves success. This is because Gatsby attaches himself to the aristocratic Cody and receives an inheritance from him. Willy commits himself to the life of a salesman and so is little more than a drummer boy. It is necessary to question the integrity of someone achieving wealth through swindling the aristocratic classes and another being doomed to obscurity for trying to be a self made man in a country where a man has the inalienable rightà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦to the pursuit of happiness
